Photography for me is not looking, it’s feeling. If you can’t feel what you’re looking at, then you’re never going to get others to feel anything when they look at your pictures

I’m John—the man behind Jack Harper.

After leaving the British Army, photography became more than a hobby. It gave me a way to slow down, observe, and reconnect with the world on my own terms. What started as therapy evolved into a quiet obsession: capturing stillness, presence, and the stories that don’t shout.

If you’d like to understand the perspective behind the portrait, this is where it starts.

Some stories don’t fit in a single frame. Others never make it past the edit.

This journal is where I write the things I can’t always show—thoughts behind the portraits, moments that slipped through, and reflections shaped by the life I lived before the lens.

It’s raw, quiet, and honest—just like the work.

In their Words

The impressions that linger, long after the shutter closes.

I worked with John during a Tudor-themed group shoot in Manchester. Connecting with photographers in that setting can be hit or miss — but John stood out immediately.

He brought a fun, positive energy and made working together feel effortless. His creativity and passion for photography were immediately clear, and he captured the spirit of the theme in such a unique, thoughtful way.

The images he shared with me are stunning — I’m genuinely proud to have them in my portfolio. I’d absolutely recommend John to other models, and I really hope we get to work together again soon!”

Jack attended a studio day where I was modelling, and it was an absolute pleasure to have him there. From the moment he arrived, he brought a warm, friendly, and enthusiastic energy to the set. He was incredibly kind, engaging, and easy to talk to — making conversation feel effortless.

Jack has a real creative eye and was eager to explore different ideas throughout the shoot, which clearly showed his passion for photography. The images he captured were stunning. Not only was the quality fantastic, but the turnaround time was lightning fast — edited, polished, and delivered in record time.

Overall, Jack is a talented and personable photographer I’d absolutely recommend to anyone.”
